Expedited? My Butt!

Hey Reader! I hope the first few weeks of school have been treating you well! As for me, they've been going pretty great. I unfortunately had to wreck my golden streak of attendance yesterday morning when I woke up with a headache and skipped my 8:00am Evolution class. Luckily it went away in time for me to make it to the other lectures and the lab I had that day. Anyways I feel the need for a good old fashioned rant so here we go! ;)

Like most biology students, I print a lot of stuff through out the course of one semester. Most, if not all, of our notes are available online to print and bring to lecture (with the exception of my favorite prof who makes us come to class and actually copy the notes from his overheads). This amount of printing requires a printer that actually prints. For a printer to print it must have ink/toner. My print needs toner. Unfortunately my printer is a few years old now (three to be precise, oh my God, I'm in my third year of university) and so it has become increasingly difficult to find the correct toner for it. 'Not to worry,' I thought to myself, 'I'll just oder it online and before I know it, I'll be printing to my heart's content.'

So I logged onto my Amazon account and searched for the toner. I found it and bought it with one click (such a nice feature that Amazon has). I also paid for expedited shipping because I needed the toner right away. Needless to say it has been two weeks and the toner only got here today and I ordered it September 8th. Um, I'm sorry but is that what they call expedited? If so I'm thoroughly unimpressed! I've been in contact with the supplier and I've asked to get a refund for the expedited shipping. I personally don't believe I should have to pay for expedited shipping when it gets here a week late. What's the point in paying? I could've just gone with regular 'free' shipping. It probably would've gotten here faster!

The worst part, to me, is that I've only ever had good experiences when ordering stuff online. It normally comes earlier than the day they first tell you and it has always been in good condition. I hope this was just a fluke because I do enjoy ordering stuff online. It's a great way to get birthday presents, Christmas presents, etc. Oh well, at least the toner is here now and I can start printing like a hard core bio student again! :)

The Fall Lineup

It's that time of year again! The fall lineup of shows is starting up and I'm sure you guys are wondering what's even worth watching at this point! I mean honestly, TV nowadays has really been boiled down to ratings and money and has completely forgotten about us, the viewer. I've always thought that if I weren't so into science I would've become a TV executive only because I love TV so much and because I feel like I'm in touch with what a good show should include. Anyways, this is just a quick look at some of the shows making a comeback this fall; which you should look out for and which you should just ignore completely! (Take this with a grain of salt considering everyone has different tastes! Also watch for SPOILERS folks! I'd hate to wreck stuff for you!)

I'll start off with 'Two and a Half Men' only because it's starting it's ninth season and I tend to have a rule about sitcoms going longer than eight seasons. That rule being that they shouldn't do it. This sitcom has been going on for eight seasons (which seems RIDICULOUS to me) and in all honesty it should've ended a long time ago. This show is the same joke replayed over and over again. We get it already. Charlie Sheen is a 'bad boy' who loves girls and his brother is the exact opposite. And of course now that Charlie Sheen has gone off the deep end what with his 'winning'/etc. they've replaced him with Ashton Kutcher. Seriously Ashton? Has your movie career sunk so low that you're joining the cast of 'Two and a Half Men'?! This should be interesting to say the least. I'll be surprised if this show lasts much longer than this.

On to a happier note, Dexter season six is starting up in October and I couldn't be happier! This show seems to get better and better and Michael C. Hall seems to get hotter and hotter. I'm told this season is supposedly going to focus more on Dexter as a parent and how he should go about raising his son which should be interesting. Also Lumen is gone which makes me over the moon ecstatic. She really didn't bring much to the show. I will always be confused as to why they killed off Rita though. She was the balance in Dexter's life! Oh well, less Rita means more Deb and if that's the case I'm alright. Deb is definitely a highlight of the show! So all you Dexter fans get ready for another amazing season!

This next show has made me laugh more than I'd like to admit but lately it's been losing its appeal in my opinion. 'The Big Bang Theory' is certainly a cult favorite at the moment and hey, I don't blame people for liking it! It's got everything a good sitcom needs! The only thing that makes me hesitant to be excited for the upcoming fifth season is Priya (Raj's sister). For some reason she just saps all the goodness out of the show for me! In contrast the new character of Amy Farrah Fowler brings something the show desperately needed (someone ALMOST as crazy as Sheldon). We'll see how this season goes but what can I say? I guess I'm old-fashioned since I want Leonard and Penny to end up together.

'COMMUNITY'! Yes it's back this month bringing us a third season chalk full of Troy and Abed in the morning! All I can say about this show is that it must be watched while it's still hot and funny. This is one of those sitcoms that could easily become boring and unentertaining so that's why it has to be enjoyed while it's still good. I strongly suggest watching this show! It's hilarious and I'll be the first to give props to Chevy Chase for his incredible performances in the show. Good characters, an original idea and paint ball wars! Who could ask for more?

This next blurb goes out to 'House' and 'Bones'. 'House' is bringing us an eighth season and 'Bones' is bring us a seventh. I used to watch House religiously but after about season five I lost interest since it was really just the same stories with semi-different plot twists. It's one of those medical dramas that capture your interest but then slowly fade away. I personally hope it'll stop after eight seasons (that way I can catch up and watch all the episodes I missed). I've heard from avid 'House' fans that the show is losing its lustre which is unfortunate. As for 'Bones' I'm going on what I've heard from my sibling and parents who greatly enjoy this crime drama. Supposedly the last season wasn't very well done and the show was threatened with cancellation. It will be returning in November (which is a strange time for a show to return) so I guess the fans will just have to wait and see. In my opinion Bones and Booth should just shut up and get together already!

'One Tree Hill' season nine will be premiering in the spring of 2012 and it will be the last season (thank God). As some of you may have read on my old blog site, I've already commented on 'One Tree Hill' and how it all went downhill (no pun intended) after Lucas and Peyton left. Seriously, why do they keep coming up with episodes?! It's gotten to be so sappy and predictable (more than normal teen dramas are) and the new characters suck (yes Hooligan [aka Julian]). At least it's ending. That's what I keep telling myself anyways.

As far as other shows like 'How I Met Your Mother', 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Criminal Minds' I hear they're still going strong but I'm not really up on them. I would think that Grey's will be ending soon but who knows? As usual I'll be watching 'Survivor' (yes season 23) because I still greatly enjoy it but hey, it's not for everyone. Anyways Reader, have a great year of TV and I hope you can find some new ones that spark your interest! :)

'Baby Steps'

As many of you are most likely aware, gay men in Canada (and definitely the states) are not allowed to donate blood. That's just how it is. Now to me this doesn't seem right not only because I'm an advocate for gay rights but also because it's a double standard. Here's my take on this.

Alright so basically what the Canadian Blood Services are saying is that gay men are not allowed to donate blood but straight people are more than welcome (if they meet the criteria required for donating blood in Canada). Their reasoning is that gay men have more sexually transmitted diseases. Okay... But what about all the straight people with sexually transmitted diseases? So they go on to explain that HIV is more prevalent in homosexuals which is definitely not the case anymore. I'm sorry, so you're telling me that a perfectly healthy gay man can not donate his blood? This makes absolutely NO sense to me for two reasons. The first reason is that there are tests done on the blood either way. So if the gay man who donated blood did in fact have a disease and had lied to Blood Services (which is a crime) or didn't know he had a disease, they would detect the disease (the same way they would detect a disease if a straight person lied and said they didn't have a disease). The second thing that bothers me is that there is ALWAYS a shortage of blood yet Canadian Blood Services can still be this discriminatory?! I realize that back before much was known about HIV/AIDS people were extra careful about the blood being donated but we know SO much more nowadays and we know that straight people are just as likely to have unprotected sex as gay people. It blows my mind.

Anyways, I was skyping with my sibling yesterday night (after finishing up about a million errands) and she brought something very exciting to my attention. It seems that the UK has recently lifted their ban on the donation of blood from gay males! The first thing I thought was, "Finally" (click to read the story) but then my sibling went on to explain that if the individual had had sex within the last year he would still not be eligible. That's why the title of this entry is 'Baby Steps' because even though gays are now allowed to donate, there are still MAJOR restrictions on how and when they can do so.

For those of you who disagree with my ideas, that's completely fine. I don't expect you all to have the same opinion as me, that's why it's called an opinion. That's all it is. I personally believe we should be following the UK's example but then again who knows how long that will take. Either way, I thought it was interesting enough to make an entry about it! ;)

University Etiquette

First of all, yes I am stealing this idea from Orientation. Secondly, I feel that this entry is absolutely necessary since most of us weren't paying attention in our respective orientations back in first year. I can honestly say I was too busy worrying about how big the campus was and if I'd make any friends. But this is something that I strongly believe would make campus a better place if followed! There are some simple little things that you can do to make university more enjoyable for everyone and contrary to popular belief, it's not just first years who commit these 'deadly sins' of academia!

Walking slowly is one of my biggest pet peeves. The thing that people don't take into consideration is that a lot of us have classes across campus and we only get ten minutes to get to them. This is not a problem when you're going to a building close to the last one you were in but when you have to literally jog just to make it  on time, people walking slowly can be so infuriating. When in university, you develop what I like to call 'the university pace' which is basically learning to walk very quickly. So quickly that when you walk with non-university people, they wonder why you're in such a rush. Now it's not like I never walk slowly, obviously I have my lazy moments. If you insist on walking slowly it's no big deal but please don't walk in packs of fours and fives taking up the entire sidewalk/hallway/etc. It's so annoying trying to dodge people!

This 'faux pas', to me, is the most confusing; people who bring their laptops to class only to watch YouTube videos. Why on Earth are you watching a YouTube video in class? You aren't paying attention to the professor so you might as well not be in class, it's basically the same thing. Not only is it distracting to you but it's distracting to all the other students in the lecture hall. The other thing that confuses me is that we're paying for these classes. By coming to class to watch videos you are paying the university for something you could be doing for free at home. For the rest of us who are actually paying to learn, this can be quite frustrating.

More often than not people have classes practically all day. This means that they don't have time to eat lunch. Obviously this issue can be solved by eating lunch in class. No problem. I've been known to bring a sandwich to class if it happens to be around lunch time! But seriously, don't bring chinese food or McDonalds. Why would you do that to everyone? Not only does your food smell delicious, it's SO distracting hearing the scraping of styrofoam/crinkling of wrappers. Just don't do it!

Talking while the professor is talking. This tip should go without saying but then again while sitting in my third year courses today there were STILL people talking. You'd think by now that people would be mature enough to keep quite for a lousy 50 minutes! It's so rude to the professor who is standing up there trying their best to teach us and it's also SUPER distracting for the other students. Also we can hear what you're talking about. For an example I'll share the story I over heard today in my physiology course. "So yeah I waited in line at the club for like an hour but the bouncer wouldn't let me in because I was too drunk. So then my boyfriend got all mad at him and before I knew it they were fighting..." Wow thanks for that. I'm so glad I could catch up on your personal life instead of listening to the lecture that I'm paying for. Come on guys, wait the 50 minutes. It's not that long!

This last little tid bit goes out mainly to the first years but I'm sure there are students in other years who do this as well. Yesterday I stood in line at the bookstore for an hour waiting to buy my lab manual. No big deal, I do this every year. It's just how it is this time of year. It's always busy at the start of new semesters. The thing is everyone has to wait in line and everyone is just as anxious to get out of there. It's hot, humid and smells of way too many people. Unfortunately there are people in line at the front who are buying books for their friends in the back of the line which makes things go by a lot less smoothly. Just get in line and wait your turn. We all have to do it, it's almost like an initiation to university.

Well Reader I hope you liked my first official rant of the school year. I think I'm going to like being on this new website and I think it's going to be a great semester! So far my classes seem really interesting and I've even got one of my favorite profs again! :)

A Quick Hello

Hello Reader I'm back! I have decided to switch my blog account to Blogger because (just as Jess said) it is WAY better than LiveJournal. You'll notice that my LiveJournal account has been deleted (seriously, go check if you don't believe me) but do not fret. I've moved all my favorite entries over from my previous site to this one. That way I don't lose my precious entries and I'll be able to keep on bloggin' on this awesome site! Seriously, how awesome does my blog page look right now? (I worked for a couple hours finding the perfect background!) You'll also note that my Bamfield blog is still up (you can access it if you have me on FaceBook or if you go to my profile page here on Blogger). I definitely want to keep those entries for memory's sake since I can barely remember all that we did during those six weeks.

So with this new blog comes the promise of many new entries (Some Songs Make Me Mad {Part 5?} anyone?), more laughs and more of me which is most likely the reason you guys are reading this! I'm excited to get going with my many rants and I'm excited for this awesome new formatted site! (Every day I'm bloggin'... Sorry for party rockin guys.) ;)

Free and Easy Down the Road I Go

(Originally written: June 27, 2011) In honor of summer being semi officially here (yes the sun actually came out today and it has yet to rain), I feel the need to talk about road trips. Whether they be good or bad everyone has memories of their family taking summer road trips (or winter road trips although they are exponentially less fun). I remember hating road trips when I was little. Sitting in the car with nothing to do except watch the scenery go by and when you're from the prairies it's easy to see how that gets boring quickly. But now that I'm grown up there's nothing I like more than hitting the open road for hours on end, singing my songs and keeping good company. To me the road trip represents everything I want from summer and everything summer should be. This entry is dedicated to those of you who have the same love of the road and to those of you who enjoy little small towns as I do. There's nothing better!

So Reader based on the readings of my previous entries I'm assuming that you know by now that I'm a little anal retentive when it comes to certain aspects of my life. This is completely true. There are certain things that must be just so in my life and to maintain this order I have created sets of rules. An example of this would be my entry "The Rules and Regulations of 'Indi' Movies" where I explain my rules for viewing independent films. Well the same can be said about road trips. They are a sacred part of summer and as such there must be rules to keep it that way. I will now explain said rules:

1) There must always be snacks and drinks in the car. The point of a road trip is to drive, not to stop every five minutes because people are hungry/thirsty. A good way to do this is to bring a cooler that way the drinks stay cold and so will the food (if it need be kept cold). Bags of chips are another good thing to bring with you since they are easy to eat while driving (although if we've learned anything from Dexter it's that the pulled pork sandwich is the perfect driving food).

2) No 'potty' breaks before the first hour. I'm sorry but this should go without saying. I HATE it when you've only just left the city limits and someone has to pee. Seriously?! We just left! Couldn't you have gone at the house? So if you're coming on a road trip with me, you had better pee at the house before getting in my car because we won't be stopping until at least an hour has gone by.

3) Lunch must be eaten in a small town's local diner. This rule is probably my favorite (not to mention my sibling's and Reggie's favorite). Basically almost every small rural town has some kind of local 'eatery' and these are always the perfect places to stop for lunch. I'll never forget our road trip to Shaunavon last summer. Yes the diner's outside (and inside I might add) were not necessarily beautiful but the food was good and the atmosphere was good! The people were friendly (which is contradictory of rule 5) and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

4) No touching the iPod. This rule is SO hard not to break but it a rule that was created for the purpose of road trip safety/to prevent bickering over the music. Once's the city limits have been reached and the highway begins the iPod is turned on, shuffle is pressed and the music begins. Once the song starts the iPod cannot be touched (except to pause it when stopping the car). This eliminates the need to fumble around with the iPod while driving and also stops passengers from arguing over which song to listen to. It's a tough rule, as I mentioned, because sometimes a song will come on and you are just not in the mood to hear it. But because the rule is there, you let the three minute song go by and hope a better one comes on. This rule is also good for the game 'Guess the Song'!

5) Watch out for locals. This rule is a semi joke but at the same time it's very true. I've noticed through out my years of road tripping that the locals of small towns will know INSTANTLY that you are not one of them. Most locals will not give you a second glance but there are those who will stare you down and look a little bit crazy. It's like they know that you don't belong and that it's their job to do something about it. I always think back to Canada Day last year when we went to a small town's firework display. The locals did not appreciate that! They were giving us the stink eye the whole time!

Well Reader I certainly hope you learned something! As for me I doubt I will be taking any long road trips this summer since my car has been acting up and I'm working quite a bit. I know for sure that my sibling is reading this and nodding her head since she will most likely not be taking any long road trips herself. It's sad but true. Oh well there's always mini road trips like the one Karina and I took to 'Fossil Forest' as I call it! ;)

Skills I Wish I Could Put on a Resumé

(Originally written: June 20, 2011) The other day at work I was chatting with one of my bosses as we always do to pass the time. I love this boss. He's so chill and relaxed and he doesn't 'crack the whip' when things are done the wrong way. I think it's because he's younger that we can relate so much but I digress. We were just chatting about random stuff when we got onto the subject of resumes. I told him how I was only keeping my other job because it looks great on a resume (reminder that I currently have two jobs, one that I like with the cool boss who chats with me and one where I find my brain melting to mush). My boss then went on to ask me about my resume and what things I had put on it. We went back in forth from schooling to languages to references and so forth. Yeah boring conversation but much better than working. Finally we got to 'Special Skills' which to me is a stupid category. Employers don't care if you can pogo stick for 20 minutes or if you can operate a BobCat (unless you are applying for a pogo stick/BobCat related job of course). I told him my resume doesn't include a 'Special Skills' section and he told me that I should add one right away! It got me wondering; if I did indeed have a 'Special Skills' section, which ridiculous skills would I choose to include?

Special Skill #1: Laser Tag. Yes that's right, Laser Tag! Reggie and I went laser tagging the other night with a few of his coworkers. It was a lot of fun! But not only was it fun, it was a revelation! I discovered that I have a natural born gift for laser tag. I don't know if it's God's way of telling me to join to army or what but I have amazing aim and stealth skills! I got 2nd place in the last round! Now I'm not trying to brag or anything but I was the only girl amongst a sea of testosterone and I kicked some booty! The fact that most of this 'sea' consisted of boys under the age of 11 doesn't play into the fact that I rule. End of story. Laser Tag is now a special skill.

Special Skill # 2: Being fake nice. Alright so my closest friends know this about me but perhaps Reader you do not. I have an uncanny ability to be 'fake nice' to anyone I meet. Whether it be someone I don't particularly care for or whether it be a day when I'm grumpy as all hell, I'll always be able to put on a grin and be a polite little angel. I can't remember if it was Jess or Karina or maybe Reggie who said that I have a 'phone voice'. By phone voice they meant me talking about an octave higher and being super polite while emphasizing certain syllables (the 'an' in 'and' so it almost sounds southern for example). It's funny because around my friends I can be grumpy or say things that may upset people but they still love me.

Special Skill #3: Quoting. Ask anyone who has spent more than two minutes with me what it is I do the most and they will all answer with 'quoting'. I have the weirdest brain in the world sometimes. I can sit and study physiology for hours and not retain a thing and yet I'll watch an episode of The Simpsons, South Park, YGOTAS, etc. and remember every funny quote that's said. My sibling and I used to have YGOTAS quote wars, the longest which lasted over an hour was unfortunately won by her but I still say she cheated! (Curse you sibling!) Reggie, Karina and I literally talk in riddles to people who don't know the shows we watch. We basically have our own language which is made up of quotes. If Reggie's reading this right now he'd know exactly what I meant if I said 'woof woof' or 'his knees are ticking time balls' and if Karina is reading this I'd have to say 'Happy tastes like sad'. It's a skill and it's something to be proud of.

Special Skill #4: Illegal U-Turns. An inside joke among anyone who's ridden in a car with me and myself is that I can't get in my car and drive somewhere without making an illegal u-turn. Don't ask me why, I just love doing them and they really do help you change directions in a pinch. The best is when there's a 'no u-turn' sign and you do one anyways! I'll never forget the first illegal u-turn I did with Karina in the car. She was like 'You know you just did an illegal u-turn' and all I did was laugh. Then again Karina's a very good driver (since her dad was a driving instructor at one point) so she probably just didn't realize that illegal u-turns are a skill and should be appreciated as such. (Note that legal u-turns are still fun but not as challenging to accomplish nor should they be praised.)

Well Reader what do you think? Should I make a 'Special Skills' section on my resume and include the four things I just talked about? Yeah I think so too. I mean who wouldn't want to hire a laser tagging, fake nice, quoting, illegal u-turner with half a science degree and Norwegian as an extra language. Yep, the next interview I get should go swimmingly. ;)

Some Songs Just Make Me Mad (Part 4?)

(Originally written: May 30, 2011) I'm thinking maybe I should change the title of these posts since most of the songs I've been talking about don't really make me 'mad'. Oh well, don't fix what ain't broke right? So I'll leave it for now. Just know that I don't sit at home listening to these songs all the while getting gradually angrier until the point where I go on a crazy crime spree. Because that has never happened... Nope. Never happened... Anyways! I've got some good songs to make fun of today ranging from country, hip hop, 90's pop and back to country. Give me a break, country music is really easy to make fun of. It's probably one of my favorite genres but that doesn't mean I'm against dissing it. So sit back and enjoy this quick release of song induced 'anger'.

Starting with Alan Jackson again... I'm again sensing a theme here. What can I say? I love the guy but his songs are just too easy to diss. I've chosen 'Where I Come From' because it's a song that I quite enjoy but it really is quite stupid. Reader, I think before reading this 'critique' I suggest YouTubing the song otherwise you will not understand what I'm talking about. Actually you should probably listen to each song if you haven't already heard them to avoid confusion. Anyways, 'Where I Come From' is basically about Alan travelling around and telling people that where he comes from is WAY better than anywhere else. I HATE people like that. I get it a lot living out of my home province. There's always that guy saying "Ya, it's way better back home. It just doesn't compare here." I personally find these people intolerable. We get it. You're proud of where you come from but do you need to diss everything that isn't exactly the way it is back home? Let's take a song example. Alan goes to a "country kitchen to try their brand of BBQ, the sign said finger lickin". The waitress comes over and asks him how things were and he responds "I'll be honest with ya m'am, it ain't like Mama fixed it". Geez. I don't know about you Reader but I'm one of those people who will ask "How's it going?" and expect either "Good" or "Alright" as an answer. I don't want your life story and I certainly don't want to hear about your problems if I don't know you. This is exactly what Alan's doing here. He's basically saying that because the food wasn't like "Mama fixed it" that it wasn't up to his standards. Now that's really saying something considering the chorus of the songs entails sitting on a front porch and 'pickin' (what ever the hell 'pickin' means) then moving on to the back porch sittin' and pickin'. Woah! What a life! Later in the song his car breaks down and some lady stops to help him. She then goes on to ask if he has plans for dinner (probably just trying to be polite and get him some food since his car did just break down). Alan retorts "No thanks m'am. Back home we like the girls that sing soprano.". Okay... So me and my sibling have contemplated what the hell that means numerous times. I have come to the conclusion that this woman who so kindly stopped to help him may have been a smidge larger than Alan liked so he said he likes soprano singers (normally quite thin little women). Wow. Either way, it really is a catchy song but it sure doesn't put Alan's part of the USA in a good light...
So this one is probably pretty obvious but it just couldn't be helped. For this entry's hip hop song I've chosen 'Grenade' by Bruno Mars (by the way I greatly dislike this and all songs by Mr Mars). The first time I heard this song I was greatly confused. I mean I've heard of devotion but this is taking it a bit far if you ask me. I mean seriously if I guy started telling me all this stuff I would start to wonder if he was a convicted criminal and if the FBI was out looking for him (or that I was in the plot of a season of 24). For example in the chorus he says "I would catch a grenade for ya, throw my hand on a blade for ya". Think that's extreme? Just wait. "Jump in front of a train for ya... Take a bullet through the brain for ya, die for ya." Wow this guy is serious! He'd jump in front of a train for this girl AND catch a grenade?! That's impressive. But I think the question we need to be asking is "When the hell would you be in these ridiculous situations unless, as I mentioned earlier, you are on the run from the FBI or a member of the 24 team?" The best part of the song is that the girl "wouldn't do the same", aka wouldn't catch a grenade/jump in front of a train for him. To quote Mr Mars he gave her everything he had and this girl "tossed it in the trash". I'd be a little scared too if this guy started rambling about all this crazy s**t! Seriously, the whole time I'd be picturing Nina or some other notable 24 villain forcing these situations upon us.

Onto 90's pop which I will note is my sibling's least favorite decade for music. The 80's rocked and then came the 90's where music really didn't go anywhere. There are OF COURSE notable exceptions such as BSB, Britney Spears and Ace of Base but really there wasn't that music good stuff coming from that decade. Either way, this song is called 'Hey Juliet' by LMNT and it's one of the catchiest 90's songs I've heard in awhile. (There is an EXCEPTIONAL key change in this song which Karina was kind enough to point out to me.) I don't have much to say about this song but I just wanted to point out that the guy trying to win over Juliet is a creeper. He will not stop until he's her Romeo (*yahoo*, it's in the song, give me a break). He's tried to "page her twice", yes that's right he paged her. Unfortunately the amazing technology of the pager did not impress Miss Juliet and she continues to ignore him. He then goes on to get his DJ friend to give a shout out to the girl on the radio. The shout out consists of "Hey Juliet, what are you doing next week?". Umm okay first of all I'm sure there are numerous Juliet's around the city and also could you be a little less vague please? If that was me I would first of all assume they meant someone other than myself and that I'd be in school/working next week like I do every week (what ever). I will give this guy props for resilience and hey, the key change doesn't hurt his chances in my opinion!

Back to country to wrap this up. I recently went back home to visit my family and me and the sibling were driving around town one night. We happened upon the song "The Man I Want to Be" by Chris Young. Chris Young is an awesome country singer with quite a few great songs but this one (in my humble opinion) wasn't that great. The lyrics were of course what got me right away. It was another song about a guy wishing and hoping that he could be a better man. Honestly boys, if you want to be better men just DO IT! NIKE STYLE! (Side note: I advertise quite a bit on this blog... Wonder if I'd ever get some free stuff! :P The answer: probably not.) Anyways in the song Chris is talking about how he wishes he could be stronger, smarter, braver, etc. and he's basically asking God to do it for him. I'm sorry, want to run that by me again? You're taking the time out of your day to ask God to do this stuff for you when you could be out there bettering yourself?! I mean it's not like I'm against people asking God for help, go for it! I'm just saying, he's not going to do it all for you. You have to take the initiative Chris! One of the last lines in the song is "Lord don't give up on me yet" and I just want to go shake him and say "YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF!"! God has lots of important stuff to do Chris. Just get out there and be a better man to the woman you love. I don't understand how something so simple can be so friggin' challenging! I know I said that lately songs I've been discussing haven't actually been making me mad but this one certainly did. Argh.
Well Reader that's it for this week most likely. I'm about to go out of commission for a couple days due to work. I'm really excited to finally start working on a more regular basis! Though I have been in a writing mood lately... Maybe you'll be hearing from me sooner or maybe not! Either way as always I appreciate you reading my nonsensical ramblings and I really appreciate the comments you leave! Without a Reader this is just me rambling to myself and that would be really lame... ;)

Recorders Are Still Cool

(Originally written: May 21, 2011) Alright so I know I haven't had an entry yet this week and that's simply because I had nothing to ramble about. Seriously, aside from hating doing the dishes (my new kitchen is small) and occasionally complaining about gas prices, I've been as happy as a clam! To be honest I'm still happy as a clam (or any other mollusc for that matter). Things are going quite well at the moment and I'm just enjoying summer while it lasts!

Anywho, today while eating my lunch and watching South Park I randomly started hearing medieval sounding flute music. I thought maybe it was part of the episode so I paused it but the music continued. Curious as to where the music was coming from, I looked out my window and there was a middle aged man sitting cross legged in the grass playing a recorder. Yes that's right a recorder. I haven't seen one of those things since grade four where we were forced to learn how to play. (Note: The South Park episode about recorders is pretty awesome!) Now when I say middle aged man, I mean balding and a little bit of a beer gut. Nevertheless this guy was just rocking it hard core on the grass, enjoying the summer day. I decided to turn off the TV and eat lunch while listening to the music.

Alright so it's four hours later and this guy is STILL playing the friggin' recorder. It was nice for the first half hour but it got really old really fast and seriously, four hours?! How was he still playing after that amount of time?! I guess I should be impressed? Either way it got me thinking about appropriate behavior in today's society. When is it considered acceptable to go ask the guy to shut the hell up (hopefully put in nicer words). I mean I was at the point where I wanted to yell out my window "WE GET IT! YOU CAN PLAY THE RECORDER! NOW SHUT UP!" but obviously I didn't. I don't think I could ever do that! I think the guilt would get to me too quickly... The funniest part was that there were other people sitting out on the grass either studying or just lazing about. They didn't seem to mind the free medieval concert that they'd stumbled into.

Now Reader, I'm not dissing this guy at all! In fact I'll give him kudos for having the guts to sit there and play for four hours straight! Honestly, I would never be able to do that! I'd be so worried about people getting angry or telling me to stop, etc. And I mean he was very good at playing the recorder and he didn't have any sheet music (very impressive memory in other words). I tip my hat to you Recorder Man (although I would never actually wear a hat, not even in winter)! You taught me a valuable lesson today! Do whatever makes you happy and for the most part people won't mind. Also it doesn't hurt to do whatever makes you happy on a nice day... People are generally in better moods on nice days and today was no exception.

(As an odd side note, with my window open I can hear the buses coming and going from the bus loop. The comings and goings of buses has become a soothing kind of back noise to me and just hearing a bus leaving makes me feel secure. Not sure what this means or why it's happening but there you go! It helps me sleep at night haha!)

Some Songs Just Make Me Mad (Part 3?)

(Originally written: April 22, 2011) I feel like this could become a regular thing. There are just too many frustrating songs out there and I keep finding new ones/remembering ones I had forgotten about. For this entry I've collected four songs from different genres which bug me for different reasons. We've got a Celtic love ballad, a top 40 song from a couple years back, a country song and a hip-hop/rap song so I'd definitely call that eclectic. (Although my iPod playlist consists of anything from Bollywood to Josh Groban so I'm really not surprised by this.) I would just like to note, before I begin this latest segment of infuriating songs, that some of the songs I diss, I really do enjoy. Actually the songs I'm looking at for this entry happen to be favorites of mine! Alrighty, the formalities are over and the gloves are off. Time to rip on some songs!

Okay so the first song is called 'The Voyage' and it's by Celtic Thunger. Now Reader, please don't start with the judgment! I know what you're thinking. "Oh my God Victorialune, I'm leaving your blog site right now because you've reached a new epitome of lameness." First of all, ouch Reader! I thought we were closer than that! And secondly, I happen to really like Celtic Thunder! They are a great group and they do love their key changes! (Always a bonus in my book!) Anyways, the song 'The Voyage' is a love song using a boat as a metaphor for a relationship. The only reason I feel the need to include it in this entry is that the lyrics are SO cheesy that if you listened to it while holding a bag of Tostitos, you would have nachos. Here are some examples: "When we started the voyage, it was just me and you. Now gathered around us, we have our own crew." Wow, really? You're comparing your 'crew' to children? I guess it's cool in Ireland to use children as sailors on your boat. (Hmm... I wonder who their references would be?) "Together we're in this relationship." Yes, very clever. The relation'ship', haha, because they're talking about boats. "Life is an ocean, love is a boat. In troubled waters it keeps us afloat." Ok come on, gag me with a spoon and get me some Pepto. Let's just say you'll have to YouTube the song if you want the full effect. Although based on what it does to most people, maybe you shouldn't.

For my top 40 song I've picked "Circus" by Britney Spears. As I mentioned at the beginning of this entry, I love the songs I'm doing for this post. I love the song 'Circus' but I remember hearing it for the first time and having some issues with the content. Britney's singing about performing and comparing it to a circus and what not. Okay that's fine but there were a few lines that bugged me. For instance, "There's only two types of people in the world. The one's that entertain and the ones that observe." Well I've got a problem with that. What if you go to a comedy club and there's a really bad comedian. He's trying to 'entertain' but that's not happening even though we're still observing. But then she goes on to say, "There's only two types of guys out there. The ones that hang with me and the ones that are scared." Oh that's great! So I guess if I ever create an eHarmony account I'll have to include something like "Oh and if you're scared of Britney Spears then you're exactly what I'm looking for!" because why would I want my guy hanging out with Britney? I can't compare to her! But the line that bugs me the most is, "I'm like a performer the dance floor is my stage." Britney my dear, you ARE a performer. You are an international pop star, I think that entitles you to state that you are in fact a performer. So why are you explaining to us that you're 'like' a performer and that the dance floor is your stage? I'm pretty sure people in New Guinea know who Britney Spears is. Come on!

Ah country music. There's so many songs to choose from when it comes to making fun of it. Don't get me wrong I adore country but with titles such as 'Chatahoochie', 'Honky Tonk Badonkadonk' and 'Cleaning This Gun', it's hard to pick just one. But for this entry I'm choosing 'Beer or Gasoline' by Chris Young. I love this song! It's so catchy and so funny but it really is quite stupid. If you haven't heard this one Reader, you may just have to YouTube it because the whole song tells a story. Basically Chris runs out of gas, pushes his truck to the 'Last Chance Market' and 'have mercy, he was thirsty'. He then has the very tough decision of choosing either beer or gasoline because I guess in the states a gallon of gas and a 'cold six pack' cost the same. He only has three dollars on him and he has troubles choosing. Well this being a country song, our hero picks the beer and states 'Hell, I'm walking!". What an epic win for the protagonist and seriously who didn't see that one coming? Here's my question: Why the hell wouldn't he buy the gas, drive to the bank or home, get some money then go get beer instead of having to walk the whole way home?! What ever.

So for the hip hop/rap song I chose 'Lollipop' by Lil Wayne. Honestly this song has brought me so many laughs whether they were from Madi doing an imitation of Lil Wayne or from Video on Trial (Don't cry before noon Laurie!). This song is friggin' ridiculous! All he talks about is how he wants this girl to 'lick him like a lollipop' which is SUCH a clever metaphor. Wow! I'm sure no one's thought of that one before! And Ps Lil Wayne, thanks for ruining lollipops for the rest of us! We do get some really funny lines in this song though. I mean who could forget: "She even wear her hair down her back like mine" (Because his dreads are SO ridiculously long.), "Call me so I can make it juicy for ya." (I'm sorry but why are you making it 'juicy' for her? I think that would be her job there Lil Wayne. Haha seriously Reader, check out the Video on Trial episode where they feature this song. I was crying from laughing so hard.) and of course "He's so sweet so I wanna lick the wraper. So I let her lick the rapper." (Oh yeah, that was another gooder Lil Wayne! You see what he did there? Switched one little letter and the meaning changed! Oooooooh!!!). Yeah this song is pretty stupid.

So there we have it! Yet another segment to my growing list of ridiculously stupid songs. As per usual, I love hearing ideas from you guys since it can be hard to find songs off the top of my head! Also shout out to myself! I only have one exam left which is next Thursday! Hooray! I'm so close to being done and starting Saturday it's back to hardcore studying! Thanks for reading guys! :)

The Friends

(Originally written: April 21, 2011) I've been feeling very thankful for things lately. Everything's kind of falling into place in my life and I've been noticing all the great things I have to live for. One of those things would definitely be my friends. I love each and every one of them and I feel the need to express my feelings about them. I think it might've been Jess' blog that got me thinking about this. She was confused whether some of her friends were just friends, good friends or even her best friends. I've always been one of those people who'd rather have a small group of awesome friends than a group of semi decent acquaintances and I've found that here at university. My friends are my family away from home and I don't know what I'd do without them! So here's a little shout out to each and everyone of my 'best friends'.

The sibling/highschooler: I love my sister more than anything in the world. She means so much to me and I like to think that I've been a good older sibling to her. She is also my best friend for life and that will never change. It's really sucked living in a different province than her these past few years but it's all the more fun when we get together and swap stories. She's beautiful, smart and hilarious (even though she's still in highschool)! I have so many memories with her (my favorite being the time she decided she would live under a chair for the rest of her life) and I'm just so glad we get along. I know so many people who don't get along with their siblings. I can't imagine not having a sister and I think I was given a pretty good one! <3

The astrophysicist/husband: I met Reggie in my first year of university and we've been attached at the hip ever since. I'll never forget the way we met. It was TV that brought us together and how fitting since we are indeed (in our opinions) the local experts on television. We basically share a mind link ('He's an actor.' ... "Will Smith.") and if you were to spend an hour with us together you would most likely not understand a single thing we were talking about. Jess always says we have our own language (aka the time she used Reggie and I as an example of an idiolect in linguistics class) and I suppose that's true. He's so dedicated to everything he does and I know that one day he'll have 'Dr.' in his title (See you around campus! :P ) I don't know what life would be like without you LP, but I don't think I'd like to know! <3

The political scientist/resident Star Wars expert: Karina was introduced to me via Reggie and when we first met I have a feeling she didn't like me too much. You see Reggie and Karina are also best friends and I'm pretty sure she thought I would steal him away from her or something. I, on the other hand, was just so pumped to meet another person at university! I have to say our friendship has evolved exponentially since that moment and we've discovered we have a lot in common. I've already spoken of how great Karina is but it's seriously true. She's honest, caring and so fun! You can be having the absolute worst day and she'll make one of her trademark faces to make you laugh. It always works and I have to say that no one even comes close when it comes to face making! Jeg elsker deg chica, du er så vakker og jeg er heldig å kjenner deg! <3

The kinesiologist/'Bowling Pro': Ah Jess, what the heck am I supposed to say? We have the oddest relationship in the world. Jess and I bicker like 'a married couple' to quote Lisa. It's probably true but I can always count on her (whether it's facing -40 to go get ice cream or to make fun of someone with me when ever I need cheering up) and I'm so grateful I met her. Jess is one my four best friends I met through residence at university and I'll never forget that first day when we all tentatively sat together in a circle on the grass (I know, I sat ON the ground... What the heck?! I guess I was trying to impress you guys.). Jess is literally one of the funniest people I know and the best part is that she doesn't mean to be. She'll say something and it'll be hilarious and she won't even realize. She's smart, pretty, dedicated (soon will be taking more than 3 classes a semester :P) and knows how to keep her cool in every situation. (I admire that since I usually just flip sh*t.) I'll never forget Stats Lab and our ridiculous conversations. Those were the days! <3

The geneticist/fashionista/limey: Amber really is one of a kind. When I first met her, I remember thinking that we'd never be friends. I don't know why this thought crossed my mind but it turned out to be completely false. I admire this young lady so much! She knows exactly what she wants to do with her life, she's super smart and so beautiful. She's literally a fashionista with her awesome clothing and great sense of style. I had to put 'limey' because she's technically English and that makes me giggle. (I don't know why...) I met her through res and I'm so grateful to have her around. She's just so much fun to hang out with! Not to mention she's going to Africa to volunteer. Wow. That takes character and seriously, this one's got it. <3

The nutritionist/doctor: Meagan, Meagan. Never in my life have I been more intimidated by someone's accomplishments. She has done everything and she has asked nothing in return. She's always telling us how it's no big deal and what not but it really is a big deal. She volunteers like a crazy person, gets amazing marks in school and wants to be a doctor. The funniest part is that she's the most humble person I know and she would never admit to being this super woman that I know she is. She's always telling me how she doesn't think she'll get into med school and I aways think the exact opposite. They'd be crazy not to take her. She's charming, pretty and so hard working it's not even funny. I met her through res also and I'm so glad I did. <3

The teacher/house wife: The fourth of the four I met through res is Lisa. She's really just a riot in a small package. She really knows how to have a good time and I'll never forget her from first year. She has really changed since then. In first year she was a partier and didn't really know what she was doing with her degree. She's just recently transferred into education and I've never seen her more happy. The reason I put 'house wife' is because EVERY time we have a conversation it leads to her talking about her future babies and husband. I admire that so much. She knows what she wants and I know she'll have it. She's a smart, beautiful and caring person. I'm so glad we were all on the council together this year and I'm so grateful that I got to know you this year! <3

Kat: The newest addition to my group of friends and what can be said? Kat is HILARIOUS! Though we've only hung out a few times I feel like I really know her well. She's so outgoing and friendly and really does know how to have fun. I certainly hope we'll get to hang out more in the near future! <3

Well that's it Reader. A look into the circle of friends that I call my family. I would like to note that these are the university friends that I consider closest but by no means am I trying to exclude anyone! I just feel that these people know me inside and out and I them. I hope that we can remain life long friends because I know that each and every one of them is going to do something incredible!!!

Female Characters Who Actually Do Something?!

(Originally written: April 16, 2011) Oh my goodness folks, something is wrong with me lately. I am usually quite frank about things I don't like (ask anyone who knows me, they'll all tell you the same thing). But lately I've noticed something I think is definitely worth stating. I watch a lot of television, I'll be the first to admit that, so I'd like to think that I'm well versed in the TV world. Throughout my years of watching I've noticed a particular trend in the programming. Female characters are about as annoying as people chewing with their mouths open while scraping their nails on a chalkboard. I can't even begin to name the amount of annoying female characters on TV at the moment and the ones from previous shows. You know the ones I'm talking about. The know-it alls, the slutty mcslut sluts, the stupid ones, etc. Needless to say they aren't exactly a beacon of light for my gender. But lately I've noticed a few female characters that actually DO something for once! They actually have roles and kick some serious ass! It's funny to think that this is such a shocker that I need to blog about it but there you go. (Ps: There are SPOILERS in this entry, you've been warned!)

I'm currently in the process of watching season 8 of 24. Ah 24, what a spectacular action thriller. I adore Jack Bauer and I've adored every season of this incredible program (Except season 2... Stupid season 2.) Anyway, there's a new character in this season named Dayna Walsh or Jenny Scott as she's also known. She's an analyst at CTU and for the first half of the show you feel sorry for her. She's got a creepy guy stalking her and trying to use her CTU clearance to commit crimes. But then things take a turn and she ends up threatening this idiot with a gun. A couple episodes later we find out that she's actually involved in the terrorist plot! I seriously freaked out when I found this out! She's so sleuth and so calm and collected and even though she's technically the 'bad guy' I'm gonna give her serious props! I would also like to give a shout out to the female president in this season (President Taylor). She's freaking kicking ass David Palmer style! She will not bow to terrorists and she's making all these ridiculous decisions that I couldn't even imagine! I know it wouldn't be a 24 hardcore girl comment without mentioning Nina Myers but honestly I didn't like her. Yes she was hardcore but she was SO flippy floppy.

My next shout out goes to Brook Davis from One Tree Hill. I know, I know, One Tree Hill. Seriously? Yup seriously. I loved One Tree Hill seasons 1-6 but after Lucas and Peyton left it just went downhill (HAHA no pun intended! Wow I really am good with the puns lately.). Ask anyone who's watched One Tree Hill and they'll tell you that Brook Davis is one of the most annoying girls on TV ever in the first few seasons. But it's amazing how much her character grows if you watch the whole thing. She grows so much and she becomes so independent and just awesome! She learns from her mistakes and becomes a famous business woman with a thriving company. No big deal or anything, she's Brook Davis. Not to mention Sophia Bush (the actress who plays Brook) is like super beautiful, like classically beautiful.

It wouldn't be a strong female characters entry without naming Captain Janeway. I know I've already chatted about Star Trek captains and I did mention Janeway in that entry but I have to do it again. There are so many people out there who hated her and thought that she was a ruthless tyrant who didn't care about her crew. I saw her the complete opposite. She was strong willed, dedicated and did indeed care very much for her crew. Her ship was lost in the Delta Quadrant and did she panic? No. She got right back on track and started trying to find ways to get her people home. No big deal. I did like Janeway as a captain (although she was no Picard) and I loved the way she commanded her ship. Janeway haters just don't see that!

Okay so I feel like I'm gushing a little bit over these characters but I'm just trying to get my point across. Sometimes (although VERY rarely) female characters can actually add something to the shows we watch. It just happens so infrequently that we fail to notice. There are obviously many more hardcore girls on TV these days I just don't have time to list them all. And again I'm not trying to diss my gender in saying that most girl characters are SUPER DUPER SERIALLY annoying but come on, we know it's true. Anywho that's my rant for the day!

(I know what you're all thinking "Victorialune, you said in your last post that you wouldn't be posting for awhile because you're studying for finals yet here you are gushing over female characters and making bad puns." Yes Reader, I did indeed say that. But you have no idea how broken my brain feels at the moment. It seriously is not functioning. I needed a break! :) So enjoy! )

Some Songs Just Make Me Mad (Part 2?)

(Originally written: April 15, 2011) So here I am back by semi-popular demand with “Songs That Make Me Mad: Part 2”! Hooray! Yes indeed I am back and ready to rag on some more songs! Now Reader, please don’t start thinking things like “Oh Victorialune, you think you’re so high and mighty dissing other people’s songs! Where are your chart-topping hits?!”. Reader, I have never in the history of this blog claimed to be a songwriter nor have I claimed to know anything legitimate about the music industry. Again, it's my poetic license and since I really suck at poetry, I’m going to diss these songs! ☺

Starting off with a country tune, I first heard this song at the Alan Jackson concert that Karina and I recently attended *insert “Where were you when they built the ladder to heaven” joke here*. “Tall Tall Trees” by Alan Jackson is definitely a classic! (I downloaded it immediately after the concert by the way!) The only problem is the content. Alan’s singing about how much he loves his girl and how he’d do anything to win her over. He promises to buy her quote “tall tall trees and all the waters in the seas” because he’s a fool fool fool for her. Well that’s all swell Alan but I just have to wonder two things. Number one, how on Earth are you going to purchase all the waters in the seas for this girl? Do they sell ocean waters on eBay now and if so, will they pay for shipping and handling?! Number two, why the hell would this girl want tall tall trees and all the waters in the seas?! Maybe I’m a traditionalist but you can’t fail with diamonds or even flowers! Why go over the top at the start of the relationship? You’re just going to have to keep outdoing yourself for years to come! Eventually you’ll be buying her property on Mars and let me tell you, that place has gotten expensive these days!

The next song was requested (with good reason) by Karina. This song has been on the radio for quite awhile now and I think it was supposed to be a breakout song for the artist. Whatever the case, “Firework” by Katy Perry is just one of those songs that infuriates me on so many levels. YES I know Reader, the message of the song is beautiful and should be taken that way. YES I know Reader, I’m obviously a horrible person for not enjoying this song. But seriously, it’s just another one of those pop songs that couldn’t come up with good lyrics so we get rhymes such as “Make ‘em go ah ah ah as you shoot across the sky ah ah” and "Boom boom boom, even brighter than the moon moon moon" (ok that one doesn't even come close to rhyming!). Come on Katy, you couldn’t come up with something better than that? I don’t know maybe it’s just me in my now old age realizing that this pop stuff on the radio is pure syrupy dribble meant to gnaw away at our brains (“After a hurricane come a rainbow”, gag me with a spoon *insert Double Rainbow joke here*.)

My last rant goes out to one Mr. Justin Bieber with his delightful song “Somebody to Love”. Now Reader, I’ve already admitted in a previous post that I quite enjoy the song “Party in the U.S.A” by Miley Cyrus and so here I am admitting that some of JBiebs’ songs are actually very catchy. This being one of them. And though its melody is upbeat and catchy, the lyrics make me wonder a bit. At the time of this song’s release JBiebs was maybe 15 years old. He expresses his absolute need for “somebody to love” throughout the entire song and I’m sitting here asking myself “Why on Earth does this 15 year old need somebody to love so friggin’ badly?!”. I mean chill out a bit there Biebs, you’ve got lots of time! You’ll find someone soon, I promise! And the best part is that once Justin finds somebody to love, you know there’ll be “one less lonely girl”. Haha, I’m so good with the puns today. (Shut up.)

Alrighty well who knows if there’ll be a part 3 to this amazing undertaking of dissing well liked songs. If any of you (aka the like five [tops] people who read this blog) have any suggestions for songs, let me know as it makes my blogging process so much easier. Until then (or until I come up with something else to ramble about) I shall be studying for finals because it is indeed that time of year again. Argh.

A Decade Too Late

(Originally written: April 15, 2011) If you ask anyone from my group of close friends what I've been talking about for the past month they'll all answer the same thing: "South Park" (they may also answer "I haven't been listening, I usually just tune her out" {Madi I'm talking to you!}). Yes it's true, I've become one of those people who actually watch South Park. I know, I'm a decade late but who cares?! It's an awesome show and since it's been the only thing on my mind for the past little while I figure I should at least mention it in a blog post. I will give props to Madi and Reggie who were the ones who introduced me to this comic gem. Reggie had first told me about it like a year ago but I told him that I thought it was stupid. It was only when Madi (the one who likes absolutely nothing) told me that she actually enjoyed the show that I decided I should give it another try. Thanks guys! You just helped me waste a month of my life! ;)

So I was going to try and be original and deep and go into some rant about how South Park has such deep messages and blah blah but there are three problems with that. #1: I'm not deep enough of a person to actually notice the messages unless they're spelled out to me ("We learned something today..."). #2: Most South Park episodes do have messages but most of the messages are actually really stupid and so again I wouldn't appear to be a deep person. #3: Cartman should always come first. I think he's the one thing from the show that people know of regardless of whether they watch it or not. Eric Cartman (aka the fat kid) is a pop culture icon and how could he not be? With his famous “Respect my authoritah” and “Screw you guys, I’m going home” and his general sadistic/psychopathic/racist/anti-Semitic/anti-hippie/anti-poor people attitudes, this nine year old has made me laugh more times than I’d like to admit. He’s also the character with the most songs on the show and I don’t think I’ve heard one yet that I haven’t LOVED. As an example he makes a Christian rock group [Faith + 1] with such classics as “The Body of Christ”, “Jesus Baby” and “I Wasn’t Born Again Yesterday” and honestly, they are some of the catchiest songs ever! It doesn’t hurt that Cartman’s voice is one of the most whiny, annoying, southern-drawly and childish you’ll ever hear. (Although "Gay Fish" by Kayne West was definitely awesome!)

As far as episodes go, I don’t know if I could pick a favorite. I’ve now seen every episode and they were all good (with two major exceptions which I probably won’t mention) but there were certain ones that really stand out in my mind. “Ladder to Heaven” happens to come to mind but it’s probably because Karina and I went to see Alan Jackson in concert and Alan Jackson was made fun of in this episode. The boys try to build a ladder to heaven to see their dead friend (only because they think he has their winning ‘candy lottery’ ticket, not because they miss him) and all the adults in South Park (and the world) think it’s touching. Soon the media’s involved, filming their attempt to get to heaven via a ladder and Alan Jackson shows up to sing about the endeavor (“Where were you, when they ran out of stuff to build the ladder to heaven?”). I really enjoyed “Toilette Paper” where the boys TP a teacher’s house and Kyle’s guilt starts getting to him so Cartman decides they have to kill Kyle so he doesn’t tell on them. Cartman then goes and buys a foam bat (I guess he couldn’t slurge that extra two dollars and buy a wooden/aluminum bat) and starts hitting Kyle over the head with it. Of course it does nothing to him and for the remainder of the episode Cartman keeps whacking Kyle with the foam bat.

For those of you out there reading this and thinking "Geez Victorialune, aren't you a bit old to be watching cartoons?" all I have to say is "Screw you guys, I'm going home". Nah just kidding. It's true that South Park's a cartoon but the content is so adult that it might as well not be. Not saying that I'm defending myself, I'll admit I'm childish for my age but who cares? It's friggin' funny and that's good enough for me! And for those of you still shaking your head, here's a tidbit for you! South Park has won 4 Emmy's, been nominated for 4 Emmy's and been nominated for an Oscar. The South Park Movie was nominated for the "Best Original Song" category for its song "Blame Canada" and lost to Phil Collins ("You'll Be in My Heart", you just can't compete with Tarzan!). The next episode that was aired (after they lost the award) made fun of Phil Collins. Yup that's losing with your head held high.

Anywho to end my rant about South Park I'd just like to point out that I know many (and I mean many) people twice my age who sit at home watching The Simpsons or Family Guy and they (even in their 'old' age) still find it funny. I would also like to give a shout out to Matt Stone and Trey Parker! Thank you both for this awesome show! I'm excited for season 15 to premier but I'm also hesitant to get my hopes up. Seasons 13 and 14 were starting to slip (with many episode exceptions like "You Have 0 Friends" which completely makes fun of FaceBook), comedy wise, so I fear that they might've jumped the shark. Oh well, all shows must come to an end eventually (except for The Simpsons I guess, what is it like season 25 already?!).
